The visits in the region

The abbey of Asnières : the first foundations exist for the 12th century but it's during the 13th that the abbey has its development. Its economic prosperity and spiritual influence are going to last during 400 years, until 1650 when it refuses the religious reforms. Sign of this past wealth, the stone floors of pavement in front of the altar. Compounds of a base in red clay a motive in white earth is inlaid there, the set is covered with a lead glacure which gives a light yellow colour: a real luxury in this period. Situated on a small road in 4 km from Doué, it's advised to return you in Cizay-la-Madeleine and to follow the indications.

Magnanerie de La Paleine: in Le Puy Notre Dame, not far from the Cellar St Maur, is the museum of the alive silk. You can discover an old activity of several centuries and for a long time protected by Chinese : the education of the silkworm. All the stages will be explained to you, from the mulberry tree in the weaving mill on a Jacquard's loom by way of the unwinding of the cocoon. After the explanations, one remains always admiring of this small worm producing a thread of more than one kilometre long. By going out of the zoo of Doué, it makes a fine and delicate complement on Mother Nature for childrens and adults.

The cellar in sculptures: at Dénezé-sous-doué is this wren decorated with several carvings. These carvings, dating the end of the XVIth century, were directly realized in the vault of the cellar. The authors of this work remain unknown, people of the region but also people of passage. They had certainly an anti-authority spirit because we find a little caricatural representation of Catherine de Médicis and others royal personalities. The cellar in sculptures is 5 km from Doué.

The subterranean dovecote of Niverdière : remained for a long time hidden from the public, but by work and efforts of the municipality of Dénezé-sous-Doué, is again visible. It was a part of a disappeared castle today . Placed on a small road near Forges, this dovecote, of a depth about 8 metres, contains about 1800 holes. Its architecture is very surprising with two bows and supports of domes placed in overhang, meaning of a chapel. A building not to be missed both by its conception and its state of conservation.

Mills: used to grind of the grain, nuts either to forge some iron or to saw some wood, the mills Doué were numerous and moved closer some of the others. 60 in 1645, they became among 77 in the last century. No one is in service actually but the mill Cartier was reused during the second world war. It's the only copy in Doué having preserved its look of former days, the others being reduced to stony masses. Street of Anjou one can see the mill Fourchou, of the XVIth century, which still keeps its wooden "hucherolle" but how long still? A construction of this type mill (on cellar), completely restored, is open to public ina few km of Doué, near the municipality of Louresse-Rochemenier, the mill of Gouré ( limited access): 20 years of work and passion! > > SITE
