
The traveler and the collegiate church

A LITTLE OF HISTORY
- There are vestiges of the surrounding wall, Le Puy was a closed city until 1784.
- The collegiate church dates the XIIth and XIIIth century is of Gothic "angevin" style. The bell tower is of the XVth century, eardrum sculptured XIIIth century.
William 9 would have brought back of the crusades the " Holy Belt of the Virgo " of Jerusalem in the XIIth century, considered supernatural as the pregnant women. His granddaughter Éléonor of Aquitaine founded the church which will become "collegiate church" in 1481 in honour of this relic.
- The chapel of the cemetery dates the XVth century.
- The former chapel of the convent of cords became a barn.
TODAY
The activities of the municipality are the vineyard, orchards and market gardening taking place alongside pasture and woodland. Beekeeping also takes place. Production of Local A.O.C wines of Anjou, Saumur and Saumur sparkling wine.
The Cellar Saint-Maur to Sanziers is always in service mushroom production and turned to the tourist public by making visited a part of its numerous galleries.
Every year during the last weekend of July is organized a car race called Grand Prix Rétro setting Aston-Martin or Bedelia in th streets of the town. A rare possibility to see closely these old racing cars which lost nothing of their elegance.
