The commune of Forges is situated in 4km of Doué La Fontaine. It has a population of 198 inhabitants and is as height as 109 metres, the highest point of the region of Doué.

A LITTLE OF HISTORY

- Virtiniacus : name of the commune in IXth century, the name of Forges will come to the XIth century with the construction of a forge wood-working.

- A presbytery dating the XVIIth century.

- The church date of the XIIth century and have a single nef, the bell tower was restored in the XVIth century. Statues are of the XVIIIth century.

- A set of troglodytic houses dug in the tuffeau in the XVIIth century.

TODAY

The main resources of the commune are the mixed-farming, the production of cereals and the culture of the vineyard.

The troglodytic village of "La fosse de Forges" is constituted with two farms of the end of the XIXth century restored and suggests you finding a part of the rural history of our region.
